The National Youth Choirs work to offer young
people from all backgrounds the chance to
enjoy the postive skills, energy and confidence
that learning to sing gives. There are seven
choirs across the country for different age
groups, taking children from 9 up to 23 through
auditions held nationwide. Residential courses
and concert performances are led by music
directors Mike Brewer and Deborah Catterall.
Music of different styles, times and cultures
is covered and there is an emphasis on enjoyment
as well as learning. NYC also works with LEAs
to provide workshops for children and teachers
out of school hours. Bursary help is available
to meet audition and course costs.

The Voices Foundation Mission Statement:
To enable all children to realise their full
potential through a singing-based music curriculum,
and to influence national perception of the
vital importance of music in education
The Voices Foundation achieves its aims by
delivering a one-year structured singing programme
with continuation in primary schools all over
England. Its team of specialist Advisory Teachers
train all the classroom teachers to teach
music using a specific aural approach, enabling
them eventually to teach music with the same
skills, confidence and resources that they
need to teach all other subjects.
Youngchoirs.net
Youngchoirs.net is the country's leading
charity devoted exclusively to encouraging
young people to sing together. It provides
a wide range of activities and projects that
reflect the needs of local communities, through
animation schemes, singing programmes and
singing workshops. Regionally and nationally,
it mounts major Singing Days (over 80 since
1983), when hundreds of youngsters come together
to work on a programme that is performed to
a public audience; these Days offer a rare
chance for young singers to join others in
something that is unique. To develop high
quality singing and repertoire, youngchoirs.net
place great emphasis on helping choir leaders.
